Mildronate (Meldonium) is good for your health!:
The main reason of the scandal why the meldonium has recognized like a doping is a few high-ranking Olympic sports managers desire to reduce the presence of Russian athletes in high-level competitions in the world.
The original Mildronate is made only by GRINDEX (Latvian - GRINDEKS) with marking in Latvian and English languages. Other are fakes - including with inscriptions only Russian.
Experts
explain meldonium influence on athletes' achievements
There is a little evidence that Meldonium in
"Mildronate" improves sportsmen performance, indicated the newspaper
"USA Today" interviewed experts.
Anti-doping expert and Prohibited Substances Control
Group Research Manager Don Keitlins explained that there is no evidence at all
that meldonium affect on athletes' performance. "It doesn't mean that
Meldonium doesn't increase athletes capacity. Just there is no research, that
could prove it, "said Keitlins. In his view, the lack of research also
raises the question of whether the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) acted in
accordance with it's own criteria.
"They must try to show that the substance
improves athletes' performance, but
including it in the list of banned substances, they already said that it
improves performance, and therefore people will use it. It has a certain
effect, but it's hard to link it with performance improvement. I have tried and
tried to understand why so many athletes use it, "said the scientist.
Also, Canadian Sport ethic Centre of medical
and scientific advisor Andrew Paip pointed out that in English is available
very little material for Meldonium. Paip supports meldonium inclusion in the
list of prohibited substances.
Other newspaper interviewed experts agree that
there is lack of research how exactly Meldonium affects athletes performance.
It could be a difficult task for Anti-Doping Agency to get an evidence, because it would be
expensive. At the same time, WADA would face with ethical problems, thinking
about in what quantities of Meldonium can give to athletes who take part in the
research.
Meldonium was include in list of banned
substances on 1st of January. WADA pointed out that such of decision was taken
after a comprehensive and reliable testing. Since then, presence of the
substance was found in many top-level athletes, including tennis superstar
Maria Sharapova from Russia.
As reported, Latvian Institute of Organic
Synthesis Ivars Kalvinsh, the developer of "Mildronate» is puzzled by banning
meldonium to athletes. He previously pointed out that athletes should be
allowed to take care of their health. Kalvinsh wants to write a letter to WADA,
explaining the effects on human health and the fact that it has no characteristic
effect of doping substances.
The former Latvian National Sports Medicine
Centre (VSMC) Anti-Doping Department manager Liene Kozlovska, who currently is
working at the European Council Sports department, previously reported to LETA
that «Mildronate» included in list of banned substances because it's harmful to
health using it excessively. She is confident that athletes should be allowed
to use "Mildronate» if there are medical reasons and it is prescribed by a
doctor. In that way could control use of the substance because athletes should
have a legal justification.
The original Mildronate is made only by GRINDEX (Latvian - GRINDEKS) with marking in Latvian and English languages. Other are fakes - including with inscriptions only Russian.
